Our Story

Promise Consultancy and Services was founded by Mr. Bhaskaran Sambasivam in 2010. Mr. Bhaskar worked in varied roles in several organised industries before founding Promise Consultancy. When he was working with the leadership team in those companies, he observed that for a business to thrive and outshine their competitors, the management needs to focus on three pillars.

The first one being the company’s main technical offering, second is their revenue generation and third being financial management. Managing the above three pillars can definitely make a company profitable, but without a focus on the law and regulation, the company becomes like a blind bird. The bird has all the functionalities of flying, but it cannot see any oncoming obstacles and will be unable to navigate. The whole business can collapse even when the three pillars are strong.

To ensure the company’s stability, professionalism and to be a long term leader with industry standing, having a clear compliance, statutory and law enforcement mandates becomes crucial. When a company have this fourth pillar in place, the whole business becomes vibrant and makes the other three pillars stronger. Mr. Bhaskar saw the common thread that whatever be the type of industry, there are some overarching laws as well as some industry specific employer laws that the organisation needs to adhere to make the fourth pillar strong.

In order to implement these common and unique laws, the organisation could either approach a law expert like an advocate, or an implementation expert like a HR practitioner. The Advocate will give you a legal opinion without much business practicalities. The HR practitioner understands the business practicalities but their legal knowledge is not in-depth. Without a clear overlap in legal opinion and business sensibility, the employers were struggling with the on-ground implementation.

When it came to compliance advisory and management, there were a lot of paper pushing agents who were one trick ponies. They could get a registration done, or manage your back office, but they had no in-depth knowledge of the acts or the laws. They could not appreciate how a law gets updated, how it settles down and affects the employer policy.

Just like the finance and engineering professionals who could advise based on business sensibilities, there was a huge demand for intermediary professionals who knew the laws well, understood the business needs and also able to navigate the statutory and compliance landscape with efficiency and adeptness.

As India was entering a new age of digitalization, commerce, enhanced enforcement and transparency, Mr. Bhaskar also predicted that the mindset of a employer to “adjust” with bureaucrats and enforcement agencies will change. Going forward, the employer will put in place good governance with systems and processes and have sophisticated engagement with the enforcement agencies.

He envisaged such a trusted professional who would:

- Handle scrutiny and enquiries with consistent follow up during hearings
- Obtain favourable outcomes for the organisation
Interpret the actual provisions of the law
- Assist the senior management in implementation of provisions
- Consistently empower senior management with knowledge sharing
Appreciate the nature of business and management needs
- Work with senior management on union-management relationship in factories and employee-management relationship in commercial establishments
- Draft policies that improves employee retention and reduce attrition
- Strategise with senior management on scrutiny and enquiries

Promise Consultancy was born out of this need in 2010, knowing that we could fill this crucial gap and offer business stakeholders this valuable and niche service. In the last twelve years, Promise Consultancy has served over 300 clients in different sectors like manufacturing, hospitality, finance, construction, IT, retail, education, sustainability, healthcare etc. and have been growing from strength to strength.
